State and local laws regulate the frequency of the rabies vaccine and require all pets to be current on their rabies vaccine. Many dogs have severe reactions to vaccines including the rabies vaccine. We recently discussed how titer testing works. Dogs are able to get a titer test done for the other annual vaccines such as parvo and distemper. They also have a rabies titer but most state and local laws require the actual vaccine and will not accept the titer. As discussed in my last post, my dog Naya is one of those dogs that would become ill and possibly die from the effects of the vaccines. Hopefully in the near future dogs will be able to show proof of a current rabies titer in leu of being revaccinated.
